This is Little Walter, playing “Roller Coaster,” on his 1969 album, Hate to See You Go. Most of Muddy Waters’s hits in the 1950s featured Little Walter on the harp, so many people are used to hearing him without knowing who it is.
Hate to See You Go is one of my favorite albums ever. It was one of the first blues albums that I ever listened to, and I never tire of it. Little Walter’s harp is powerful and expressive, and that alone is enough to make this album timeless. Walter’s presence as a vocalist is also fun—-he’s no Howlin’ Wolf or anything, but he is supremely convincing as a blues vocalist. If you haven’t heard this album and you love the blues, you are missing out.
Sincerely,
Reverend Harris
p.s. The original file was in .aac, so I had to convert it to .mp3. I apologize for the low-quality recording; it doesn’t do Little Walter justice.
