This is The SteelDrivers playing “Peacemaker,” from their 2010 album, Reckless. This is one of the best bluegrass bands currently playing, and I am so glad to get to listen to their second album. It is excellent all the way through. It doesn’t sound significantly different from their eponymous debut, but there’s no trace of stagnation either. There’s still a wide range of songs—-barn-burners and ballads, standard and unfamiliar chord progressions—-and there’s still extremely effective musicianship from all parties.
My favorite track is the last one, “Ghosts of Mississippi,” but the file was a little too big. “Peacemaker” showcases the powerful vocals nicely, and those vocals are a big part of what sets The SteelDrivers apart from other bluegrass acts.
If you liked their first album, which I’m sure you did, if you listened to it, then you will like Reckless. This is bluegrass at its best.
Sincerely,
Reverend Harris
