This is Ruth Brown performing “Sweet Baby of Mine,” which was first released in 1953. I have it by way of a compilation, which I usually try to avoid, but sometimes its the most effective way to get your hands on some music.
Ruth Brown is famous for bringing a pop aesthetic to rhythm and blues, but this song doesn’t showcase that influence too much. It’s not her most representative work, but it’s my favorite song of hers.
