This is Hoots & Hellmouth playing “You and All of Us,” from their 2009 album, The Holy Open Secret.  Hoots & Hellmouth is a Philadelphia roots-rock band.  The thing I like most about this recording is how obvious it is that the musicians are having a great time playing together.  “What Good Are Plowshares if We Use Them Like Swords” is another of my favorite songs this album.  It has a more rocking sound about it, with a punchy organ part, soulful vocals, and a funky structure.  The first time I finished listening to this album, all I wanted to do was go see them live.

Hoots & Hellmouth, their eponymous 2007 debut also a great way to spend 45 minutes.  Check out “Forks and Knives,” and “Rattle These Bones.”

I find this music excellent to drive to.
