This is Macklemore performing “And We Danced,” from his 2009 album, The Unplanned Mixtape. I figured, since we’re on the topic of dance music that even your neanderthal friends can enjoy, this would would be an appropriate selection.
Macklemore is a Seattle-based rapper, and this song is an obvious tongue-in-cheek parody of 1980s pop. It’s dance music that succeeds for an entirely reasons entirely different from Kid Sister. It is music that is so silly that at moment in it, it ceases to be ironic, and you can’t help but sing along with it in all seriousness. You might even notice yourself imitating his funny accent.
Most of his music is nothing at all like this, and I strongly urge you to check out some of his more representative stuff. “Hold Your Head Up,” from his debut album, The Language of My World, is a good place to start. I saw Macklemore open for The Blue Scholars when they come to town, and he put on a really great show. He even performed “And We Danced,” after putting on a wig and a cape and prancing around stage. It was a riot.
Sincerely,
Reverend Harris
