[Flash 9 is required to listen to audio.]

This is The Ditty Bops playing “Sister Kate,” on their 2004 album, The Ditty Bops.  The Ditty Bops are a Western swing, ragtime, folky band from Los Angeles.  I think they sound like a West Coast version of the Sweetback Sisters (or maybe the Sweetback Sisters are the East Coast version of The Ditty Bops—-the Sweetback Sisters started recording a few years after The Ditty Bops, I think).  Seriously, listen to this song next to the Sweetback Sisters’ version of “My Uncle” next to The Ditty Bops’ version of “Sister Kate.”  They sound a lot a like.

“Sister Kate” is a ukulele ragtime standard, and it’s the perfect song to showcase the playful-but-traditionally-influenced sound of The Ditty Bops.  Also check out their song “There’s a Girl,” on the same album.

Sincerely,

Reverend Harris
